If you're having trouble navigating new realities and coping with loss, you're not alone. A rollercoaster of emotions can follow: anger, guilt, sadness, relief. These feelings can manifest themselves in different ways and can include anxiety, sleeplessness, physical problems, depression and a host of other new and often unwelcome reactions. Seeking help can allow you to find your footing through a painful, difficult and exhausting time. Therapy and a strong support network can begin to make everything make sense again. Just knowing you're not alone in your grief is a powerful feeling.
Legal issues
You'll need a lawyer. For real.
And, we'd recommend finding a good one. Someone you trust. While awash in grief, navigating a will, estate and probate can be a massive headache. We spent (wasted) hours combing the internet, trying to find a site to tell me what exactly we had to do and what precise order in which we had to do it. No dice. A lawyer will help you execute a will, close an estate, walk you through the process of opening a bank account for the estate, work with you and the courts through the probate process and ideally be someone who will take an enormous amount of the burden off of your back.
Funerals & Memorials
This is the time to honor the deceased's wishes and create something that will celebrate the life they lived. Funerals and memorials can take many different forms, and hopefully, will bring some sense of closure to the friends, family and community.
PROPERTY
Executing an estate can be an incredibly daunting task. Even more so if you’ve never owned your own property, sold a house or worked with a realtor before.
